10 Times The MCU Was Right To Forget The Source Material
1. The Spider Bite - Spider-Man: Homecoming
After Marvel struck a deal with Sony to bring Spider-Man into the MCU, the announcement that they would be continuing with a new iteration of the character rather than Andrew Garfield's sparked some concern. This would make three completely separate Peter Parkers within the space of less than ten years.
Of course, Marvel Studios and Tom Holland have gone on to create arguably the best live action version of Spidey, and managed to do so without boring the audience by retelling the origin story we all know off by heart at this point.
Even just the typical, mainstream audiences know Peter's backstory by now, thanks to having it told by both Sam Raimi and Marc Webb, let alone fans of the comics themselves. Instead of a third retelling of how Peter was bitten by a radioactive spider, the MCU cleverly accepted that this was already common knowledge, and old ground that simply didn't need revisiting.
The same can be said about the death of Uncle Ben. Though integral to the character, the MCU was able to make do with a couple of subtle hints to these two big moments in Peter's life, saving precious time and allowing for a much fuller Spider-Man movie. We simply didn't need another origin story, and Marvel Studios appreciated that.
