10 Times The Movie Killer Was Hiding In Plain Sight

7. Ernesto De La Cruz - Coco

Disney and Pixar both have a knack for leaving their ultimate antagonists hiding in plain sight, to the extent that it's honestly a bit stale and predictable.

But Pixar did a remarkable job with it in Coco, building up legendary musician Ernesto de la Cruz (Benjamin Bratt) as protagonist Miguel's (Anthony Gonzalez) beloved great-great-grandfather.

But it's revealed later on that Ernesto is an impostor, having stolen hit songs from the real genius - and Miguel's actual great-great-grandfather - Hector (Gael GarcĂa Bernal) after murdering him with poison.

It's far from a typical throwaway shock villain twist, deepening Hector's character arc in particular by transitioning him from mere charming trickster to genuinely sympathetic, even tragic hero.

We should know by now to distrust basically any non-protagonist character in an animated movie, because there's a solid chance they might, you know, end up killing someone.
