Director David O. Russell has directed The Fighter, American Hustle and plentiful other pictures.

As well as a reputation for making good films, there are also a few too many stories out there of Russell's poor behaviour on set. From shoving people, to screaming in faces and making colleagues cry, what the filmmaker deems as "passion" has manifested in uglier ways throughout his career.

When he was directing the film Three Kings in 1999, Russell's behaviour elicited a physical intervention from none other than George Clooney. The shoot was apparently fraught with tension, and Russell had been seen belittling and shouting at other members of the crew.

According to Clooney, he spoke to his director and told him that if he wanted to pick on someone, to pick on him. After seeing Russell once again berating a worker, Clooney intervened and, according to some on set, was rewarded with a headbutt from the irate director.

This resulted in a physical exchange between the pair where they had to be separated by other members of the production. Although they pledged to never work again, the two say they hold no animosity towards one another.

Verdict: Clooney (morally)
