A clear and simple rule should be that if your franchise is called something as ridiculous as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, you should never, ever be allowed to take yourself too seriously. Apparently nobody told that to Michael Bay.

The Bay-produced reboot and its sequel are just the latest in a string of unfortunate events for the iconic series. What started out as a semi-satirical comic and became a couple of awesome cartoons has since been devalued, time and time again.

Notably rebooted in 2007, this time with a CGI animated film, a mere five years later, Michael Bay's studio, Platinum Dunes, got their hands on the rights to the characters and released another reboot. This time around, the entire thing was much more grim and gritty, all the while maintaining Bay's trademark sense of potty humor.

It was a conflicted viewing experience, and sadly, despite attempts to get closer to the source material, its sequel suffered the exact same fate. The Turtles could really benefit from a break, as two reboots within five years is about two too many.
