3. Johnny Depp
What He Was Doing Ten Years Ago: Talking and acting funny. Its now been ten years since the first Pirates Of The Caribbean. Just let that sink in. That film is now the same age as Return Of The Jedi was when Lucas started on The Phantom Menace, meaning that to a generation its regarded as a classic. That it may not be, but it was certainly the film that made Johnny Depp a superstar. Yes, he was already well known, but this put him on the superstardom map; before he was Tim Burtons pal, now he was
the character actor. And boy did he milk it.
What Hes Doing Now: Talking and acting funny. POTC heralded in a new career direction for Depp; once Jack Sparrow had become iconic he tried the same sort of shtick with Willy Wonka, Sweeny Todd, The Mad Hatter and more (even Jack Sparrow became a parody of himself). Maybe the draw of it is starting to wane; The Lone Ranger had him distastefully playing a Native America, but that thankfully flopped massively. Johnny Depp isnt quite a has-been yet, but his role choice is becoming boringly predictable. It wont change at all either; theres a fifth Pirates and a self-financed Wonderland sequel, both coming in 2015. Depp has so much potential, but seems wary to use it less the box office doesn't like it.
