10 Tiresome Directors Who’ve Done Nothing New In The Last Ten Years

8. Paul W.S. Anderson

paul-ws-anderson-680x450Known For: A litany of video game adaptations, such as the (surprisingly decent) Mortal Kombat, the Resident Evil franchise (not so decent) and AVP: Alien vs Predator (rubbish). The Last 10 Years: Though Anderson's most financially successful output has been the last two Resident Evil films, he's also directed a remake of the classic exploitation flick Death Race, a reboot of The Three Musketeers, and most recently, historical action epic Pompeii. They're all worthy projects with plenty of potential (except perhaps for Resident Evil, which was already run well into the ground by the second installment), but Anderson's repetitively hyper-active, braindead style of filmmaking sadly ruined most of the fun. The Exception: Death Race, though an absolutely down-the-line action flick, actually wasn't that bad. What We'd Love To See: A return to the sci-fi horror genre ala arguably his best film, Event Horizon. Most of all, we just want him to be done with Resident Evil once the upcoming "The Final Chapter" is released.
