10 Top Actors Who Turned Down Prestigious Awards

8. Jim Broadbent Doesn't Want An OBE

The overwhelmingly wholesome actor has found himself in a position within his career where he turns down more work than he actually accepts. This is quite surprising as at times it really does feel like Jim Broadbent is everywhere. He was even gifted the notable role of Derek Trotter in Only Fools and Horses, but said no. With the number of offers he has turned away, it's no surprise he did the same to an OBE.

Broadbent was granted this title after his Oscar-winning performance in the film Iris. He respectfully declined and claimed that it was mostly because he didn't think he suited it or deserved it. Already bolstering many awards in his repertoire he believed he'd received enough gratification for his work.

Additionally, the Moulin Rogue star claims that some of it also had to do with his anarchic father, who he lost at age twenty-two. He claimed that his dad would have been proud to see him turn down such an award. But Broadbent also made it clear how pleased he was that the OBE list was leaked, so he garnered the acclaim for being offered the position without even accepting it.
