10. Officer Matt Cordell (Maniac Cop, 1988)
Officer Matt Cordell was a great cop. So good in fact that he even managed to unearth corruption in the political office of Mayor Jerry Killium. But sticking his nose in where it wasn't wanted resulted in Cordell being framed for a crime he did not commit and sentenced to a stretch in the infamous Sing Sing prison where he is brutally murdered in the showers. Pissed off at how his life was turned upside down and then ended despite his innocence Cordell seemingly returns from beyond the grave to exact his bloody revenge. Although it is revealed that at certain stages of the film Cordell was actually alive he seems totally impervious to pain and withstands bullet shots and various other attacks by the cops trying to stop the deranged ex cop. It is unclear by the end of the film if he is supposed to be dead as he is impaled and drowned but still makes an appearance in the closing moments and a sequel. Matt Cordell is a relentless law man intent on bringing the city to its knees with his own special brand of revenge fuelled justice.
