8. Saving Private Ryan (Poland)
Going by both this poster and the
Chinatown one, the way to make a Polish movie poster is to find the most violent part of the movie and emphasis it in a horrific amount of detail. Is that the only way to get Polish people into the cinema? The fact that somebody decided that
Saving Private Ryan is best summed up through an image of a soldier's head being blown out through the back of his skull is kind of depressing, though. And yet, much of Spielberg's movie does feature a lot of moments like this, so I kind of get where Poland is coming from. In a strange way, there's something oddly mesmerising about this, though: the soldier really looks to be saying, "Oh, man, I really screwed up," whilst also waking up from a nap. Kind of.
