5. The Fly (Poland)
Once again, the Polish movie poster rule (pick a grotesque scene and exaggerate it all out of proportion) stands: and this time it's for David Cronenberg's excellent body transformation/sci-fi movie extravaganza
The Fly, which - as you'll know -starred Jeff Goldblum in what is probably considered today to be his most iconic role. So let's take a look at this, shall we? They've at least captured what it means to be a fly, I suppose, and I think it was rather an ingenious move to ensure that there's visible stubble on our vomiting character - you know, so we know that this is some kind of man/fly hybrid. But I do think this poster manages to be disturbing and striking all at once. Still, I don't imagine that audiences were convinced to go to the theatre based on the image of a hurling man alone. Then again, maybe they were: I confess I don't know Poland as well as I should like. Doubly so, having been exposed to their... uh... "artwork."
