10 Totally Unnecessary Movie Sequels That Everybody Wants Anyway

1. Unbreakable

It's been 15 years since Unbreakable first made its way into cinemas as the follow-up to M. Night Shyamalan's twisty horror hit The Sixth Sense. Underrated all out of proportion (you could seriously argue that Unbreakable is actually Shyamalan's best film), Unbreakable - which starred Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson - set out to both embrace and deconstruct the superhero myth. It was both poignant and thrilling in equal measure, and worked as something akin to an origin story for Willis' invincible everyman, David Dunn. It is felt like the start of a potential franchise, too, as Dunn and arch-villain "Mr. Glass" seemed drawn together - and destined to do battle forever - in a way similar to that of Batman and the Joker. Indeed, Shyamalan might have saved himself (and the world) a few terrible movies had he opted, instead, to create a follow-up movie to Unbreakable, charting the rise of Willis' character as he made the transformation from civilian to superhero. Now that so much time has passed since the original flick, should Unbreakable 2 ever find itself commissioned, it would probably feel very belated. So whilst it is entirely unnecessary, there's no denying that fans of the first flick would still likely find themselves feeling giddy and excited with regards to its existence. Hey, why the heck not? Likelihood? Probably not. Unbreakable didn't make a huge box office impact, and the original picture is now 15 years old. Still, both Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson have expressed their interest in a sequel. Who knows?
