10 Trailers That Should Make You Nervous About 2017's Biggest Movies
9. Spider-Man: Homecoming - Trailer 2
The second full length Spider-Man: Homecoming trailer was met with a fair amount of criticism when it landed not so long ago, mostly because it appears to lay out the entire story in just under three minutes.
Spoilers aside, though, can we just admit that there's something far too familiar about Spider-Man: Homecoming? It doesn't look bad, but it does look like - yet again - a rehash of familiar beats. We've got Peter hanging out at high school, a "big flying monster guy" putting the female lead in peril, a set-piece where Spidey has to use all his strength to stop a transport disaster...
Whilst it's true that we can be happy that the movie still looks relatively light and colourful, the trailer also attempt to sell us a movie that a) fails to ignite much excitement and b) features way too much Robert Downey Jr. for a Spider-Man film.
You'd have thought that the studio would've spun this movie in a less conventional way, but the trailer suggests there's a relatively safe blockbuster on the way. It would have been nice for Marvel to take some risks, offering fans a Spidey entry they wouldn't have been able to dream up themselves. Here's hoping that, for some reason, this trailer purposely misrepresents the final cut.
