10 Trailers That Tease Missing Scenes In Superhero Movies
9. Spider-Man: Homecoming - Spidey & Iron Man In Flight
One of the most striking images from Spider-Man: Homecoming's promo campaign showed Spidey and Iron Man in flight, soaring across the skyline of Queens, New York. No such scene appeared in the movie, at least not with the Queens backdrop.
In an interview with ScreenCrush, director Jon Watt explained why you didn't get to see this shot in the final cut, and the answer is because it was never intended to be in there. Marvel Studios wanted a shot of airborne Iron Man and Spidey for the debut trailer, but the footage they took from the Staten Island Ferry scene didn't look right.
To ensure the teaser footage was more visually appealing, the effects team superimposed existing footage of the superheroes on top of the Queens background.
"I was like, 'Let's just put them in Queens. Let's use that as a backdrop.' Because we couldn't just create a whole new shot, so let's just use one of these shots of the subway; put them in there. I feel a little weird that there's a shot in the trailer that's not in the movie at all, but it's a cool shot."
This isn't the only scene from the Homecoming trailers that was nowhere to be seen in the final product. That shot of the Vulture swooping down in an Atlanta hotel atrium was created exclusively to show at Comic-Con.
