10 Trailers That Were Better Than The Film
6. Exodus: Gods And Kings
The trailer for Exodus: Gods and Kings was slower paced than the actual film, and that is definitely a bad thing. Okay, not every film has to be slow-paced, especially ones full of action, but it's still good to have a breather now and then to add some depth, substance, and emotion, which Exodus is hugely lacking. It's as if Ridley Scott thought he didn't have to bother with this boring stuff because most of us already know the story of Moses and Rameses.
The trailer was full of some splendid visuals and ambitious action sequences, and it had snippets of the emotion that must come with obeying the commands of God, saving an entire race, and fighting against an old friend. What we didn't think would happen though is that said snippets would only be snippets in the film too.
Overall, the film felt like one long montage sequence to give Scott the excuse to unleash some biblical mayhem, which is all fine and good when it isn't two and a half hours long. It's the trailers that are supposed to feel like extended montage sequences, so that's why when the credits rolled we felt as if we still deserve an epic, fuller story. How can a film be so long yet say so little?
