10 Trends That Are Killing Movies

1. 3D

When 3D is done well, like in Avatar and How to Train Your Dragon, it is difficult to have much of a problem with it. After all, experiences like that have clearly been crafted with care, and seek to amaze and immerse the audience. The same cannot be said for the glut of post-converted 3D films that are rushed through the post-production process so that studios can rake in some extra cash. Take Clash of the Titans in 3D; I sat there in the cinema and removed my 3D glasses, astounded that the image through the glasses and without them was pretty much exactly the same. This is the result of shoddy post-conversion; it should normally take countless months, but for Titans, they did it in a very stunted production schedule and clearly weren't ready for it. Unfortunately, the number of films that harness 3D well can be counted on one hand, and so it's largely a case of studios being both greed and lazy, wanting to push this latest gimmick while putting in the most minimal effort possible to make it happen. It's one gimmick we hope goes away soon and becomes a rare "event" for only those films that use it properly, like, say, Avatar 2. What movie trends annoy you the most?
