10 Trippiest Horror Movies Of All Time

9. Eraserhead

Half of this list could honestly be comprised of David Lynch films, but Lynch's 1977 debut Eraserhead is surely the most outwardly horrific from his atmospheric output.

Possibly cinema's greatest indictment of the horrors of parenthood, Eraserhead saw Lynch swiftly cement his interest in surreal imagery and feeling over concrete logic, establishing a dreamlike - or rather, nightmarish - tone that has defined most of the filmmaker's career since.

An all-timer Vibes Movie, Eraserhead cleaves away excess dialogue in favour of terrifying visual storytelling, elevated by gorgeously oppressive monochromatic cinematography.

From lead Jack Nance's impossibly tall hair to the balloon-cheeked lady in the radiator and, of course, the deformed child itself, Eraserhead is a stream-of-consciousness trek through fears both primal and abstract. But of all the trippy films one might be tempted to watch high, this should probably be dead last on your list, for reasons that will be obvious to anyone who's ever seen it.
