7. Red Dog (2011)
Red Dog is actually quite a good family film but it does go a bit overboard with the cheese factor. Red Dog is based on a book by Louis de Bernieres who had heard numerous stories about one dog and all his adventures from the citizens of a tiny Australian town. The film is quite funny and it's an interesting story but the movie cliches eventually pop in and it gets a bit soppy; there was no whirlwind romance going on in real life - in fact, John (Red Dog's best pal/master) was just a normal guy who was in the middle of a divorce at the time when this film was set. The tragic death of Red Dog by his master's grave also didn't happen - this addition is quite similar to the Scottish story of Greyfriars Bobby where he stayed by his masters grave for 14 years until he died himself... apparently. Anyway, in real life Red Dog was sadly put to sleep after being poisoned by an unknown source. The story of Red Dog is quite extraordinary but the film goes a bit too far with the cliches which makes it less miraculous. Take a little pinch of salt when watching this film but do still watch it - it's very enjoyable and will probably make you cry!
