10 Truly Awful Superhero Movie & TV Love Interests
6. Lana Lang - Smallville
So, the concept of Smallville is pretty cool. Air a series about the teen version of a beloved superhero on a fledgling teen drama network, cast an underwear model as the nerdy outcast (ok, probably less of a good idea).
And while the show certainly dropped in quality as it went on (after all, it was on the air for ten years, you can't expect it to have knocked every episode out of the park) at the beginning it was a pretty solid show. But to be honest, one of its major weaknesses is its girl next door, Lana Lang.
She was not a tremendously interesting character to begin with, but the main reason why she didn't work that well was not because of who she was, but rather who she wasn't.
Lana may be Clark's childhood love interest, but there's exactly one woman that most audiences want to see Superman with, and that's Lois Lane. It's hard to care too much about a character that you definitively know isn't going to end up with the protagonist, especially when it's one who is so easy to have exactly zero feelings about. That's Lana.
