6. Bill Lumbergh (Office Space)

Very occasionally, you'll see a character in a movie so infuriating, that all you can think about is tearing your way onto the screen to get rid of them yourself. Bill Lumbergh - the infamous boss from hell played by Gary Cole in Office Space - is a prime example of such a character. For every look of contempt he casts across the office, every noisy slurp of coffee he takes whilst hovering just a little too close to the desk, and every elongated word that stretches off his tongue, you begin to align yourself more and more alongside the movie's bored and tense protagonist office worker Peter Gibbons. The company boss has been depicted as an unreasonable jerk on numerous occasions in the movies, but never has a character's hatred for his boss felt so palpable than in Office Space. In the same way that a 'silent' backyard alarm is emitted in a manner that makes cats want to claw their own brains out, every grating drawl from Lumbergh is pitched at just the wrong level. No matter how many times the phrase "yeahhhh" lazily flops from his mouth, you find yourself curling your fingertips and toenails on every occasion.
