10 Truths We Don't Want To Admit About The Dark Knight Rises

4. It Should Have Been Rated-R

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCEo7SCvYH4 There was absolutely no chance of this after The Dark Knight pulled in over a billion dollars with a PG-13 rating, despite itself pushing the rating to its limit with the sheer sustained threat of The Joker. The Dark Knight Rises nevertheless feels like it might have benefited from an R-rating given the tone that cuts through the picture. Who can remember Tom Hardy's early interviews about the film, building up Bane as a total badass by saying he was all about ripping out spines and crushing skulls? It's hard to say that the character's final path of carnage lived up to that graphic description, even if Nolan edited things to get away with as much as possible under the PG-13 banner (Dagget's death, specifically). For me the most frustrating scene in this regard was when the policemen finally made it out of the sewers and staged their last stand against Bane's militia. The policemen, curiously equipped without weapons, run towards the militia who are totally packed to the gills with weapons, and yet because of the PG-13 rating, the militia has to have terrible aim which causes most of their bullets to ricochet off the floor, while only a few cops die here and there. It's stupid; a gang of unarmed men running towards a group of armed men should have resulted in the most one-sided massacre in movie history; the result was consequently pretty damn unconvincing. An R-rating could have fixed this; gore galore!
