10 Truths We Don't Want To Admit About The Dark Knight Rises

5. The Bat-Voice Is Worse Than Ever

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMGp-plNO9A Christopher Nolan must be surrounded by yes-men, because apparently he never got wind of just about everyone complaining about the gruff, deep Batman voice that Christian Bale uses, basically making it sound like the Caped Crusader's biggest foe is a bout of strep throat. Though I was a defender of the vocal register in The Dark Knight, it's harder to stick with it here given that Nolan draws attention to how ridiculous it is several times throughout the filming, having Bats use the voice even when he doesn't have to, as though it's a reflex or something. The first absurdity occurs when Catwoman disappears while talking to Batman, and he remarks, "So that's what that feels like." The second is at the tail-end of the film, when Batman is getting ready to fly Bane's bomb away from Gotham, and despite everyone in the room (Catwoman, Blake) knowing that Bruce is Batman, he continues to talk with the signature scowl while revealing himself to Gordon. There's absolutely no reason for this, and the scene might have been more emotionally resonant if Batman "broke character" in front of Gordon.
