10 Twisted Timelines Created By Avengers: Endgame
1. 2018: A Writhing Multiversal Mass Of Tentacles
739933When the Ancient One explains the realities of time travel to Bruce Banner on that rooftop, she says that the Infinity Stones "create what you experience as the flow of time.” Removing one from when it’s supposed to be automatically causes a branched timeline.
She’s talking about what might happen if she gave Banner the Time Stone to take into the future. However, what if the Stones - formative pieces of creation itself that predate this universe - actually help create and maintain that single timeline she’s referring to? What happens if they all vanish, this time for good?
Because that’s what happened in 2018: Thanos used the six Infinity Stones to destroy themselves. So what happens to the main timeline in 2018 in the permanent absence of the Infinity Stones?
The many worlds theory, that’s what: a scenario where every possible alternate history, based on every possibility that might ever have existed, actually does exist. Not just one timeline but an infinite number of parallel universes, existing side by side.
It would explain the line in the Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer about Mysterio allegedly being from a parallel world. It would set up the more traditional multiversal model used in Marvel comic books for the last few decades. And it would allow for the introduction of the X-Men, the Fantastic Four etc at some later date: heroes from alternate realities, come together at last.
You know it makes sense.
