10 Twisted Timelines Created By Avengers: Endgame
2. 1945: Cap & Peggy Live Happily Ever After… Or Do They?
It’s a lovely idea, if you don’t think about it too hard... but it doesn’t make sense. Our Cap doesn’t belong back there with her, and he knows that.
We know how this works. When Steve arrives back in 1945 and goes to see Peggy Carter, he creates a branched timeline, one in which there are two Steve Rogers, one on her doorstep and one trapped in ice in the Arctic.
He’ll tell her who he really is, how he got there, because he’s Captain America. He’ll tell her that her Steve is alive but won’t be rescued for seven decades, because he’s Captain America.
And he’ll tell her, “Let’s go get him, then,” because he’s Captain godd*mn America. Not a chance he’d do anything else: and Peggy Carter is not going to leave her boy frozen in carbonite.
In 2023, when Steve tells Falcon, “I thought maybe I’ll try some of that life Tony was telling me to get,” he was talking about the younger Steve Rogers’ life: he saved his own life, reuniting that other Steve with the love of his life.
That wedding ring could mean that our Steve ended up marrying someone else… or it could mean that this is that other Steve, arrived in this timeline to meet Sam on this specific day to give him the shield from that timeline.
If that’s the case, then what happened to our Steve? Well, who knows. But I like to think that Captain America would never quit.
