9. Der Fan (1982)
Desiree Nosbusch does a really great job with her role as Simone - a teenage girl who is alienated from everything and everyone. She is obsessed with 'R' -a really crappy German pop singer - and as we all know, obsession doth mighty Bunny Boilers make! She follows him to a live TV taping and the mere sight of him makes her faint. Being an incredibly lucky girl, this R fellow, who is possibly the least charismatic singer I have ever seen in a film, takes our blank heroine to a house and shags her. He tells her he is leaving but Simone cannot cope with the fact that her hero is a prick and she goes into Bunny Boiling territory when she kills him, dismembers him and then eats him! Der Fan is an excellent portrait of the mindset of an obsessed young girl. This is the kind of obsession that leads the character into Bunny Boiling. Her fetish for R is overwhelming. I know teenage girls get crushes on pop stars and movie actors but Simone's crush on R is beyond reasonable. He is her one consuming passion - she has zero interest in anything other than R and his bleatings and she is just so alienated from the world in her single handed dedication to R. She has no friends, she zones out in school, she doesn't talk to her family. I think that Der Fan is an interesting exposition. What happens to a Rock Star when he meets his biggest fan? And what happens to the number one fan when she realises her hero is a pillock? Does R deserve his fate after treating Simone so shabbily? Is this even a remotely plausible scenario? All of these questions run through my head whenever I ponder the goings on in Der Fan. What I can ascertain from the film is that Simone makes for one hell of a teenage Bunny Boiler, unable to let R go, she consumes him (literally), it doesn't get much madder than that
