7. What Caused The Infertility? - Children of Men
In Children of Men, the not-to-distant future has encountered a devastating problem of apocalyptic proportions: women have become infertile, and no children have been born for nearly two decades. That's a hell of an interesting premise of course, and one that made for a truly awesome and ultimately inspiring movie experience. The only thing is... the reason for female infertility is never explained. There's no reason stated as to why such a terrible thing has happend. Of course, that's the point. If we don't know, we can't figure out how to prevent it. The actual plot of Children of Men concerns a young woman named Kee and her sudden, unexplained pregnancy, though - the first in a long, long time, and a notion that renders her the most important person on the entire planet. It's up to Clive Owen's Theo Faren to protect and escort her, of course, and by the end of the flick we assume that we'll learn why Kee could get pregnant. Nope! This doesn't ruin the movie at all - it makes it better, in actuality, given that science can't always explain everything - but it'd still be interesting to know how or why such a catastrophic event occurred at all.
