10 Unanswered Movie Questions That Kept You Up All Night

8. What Was Really In That Briefcase? - Pulp Fiction (1994)

What the hell's in the case? That's just one of the questions that's been hotly debated (along with others, like, does a foot massage mean anything?) since Quentin Tarantino's magnum opus hit screens over 20 years ago. Memorably, Vincent Vega (John Travolta) and Jules Winnfield (Samuel L. Jackson) are driving around, out for a briefcase filled with... orange light, apparently. Of course the briefcase is used as a MacGuffin, a plot device that's simply meant to move the story forward, and ultimately has no explanation. But due to this lack of explanation, fans have theorised wildly on its contents, guessing theories such as it containing radioactive material (due to the glowing) or the diamonds from Tarantino's first film, Reservoir Dogs. The most persistent and ingenious theory is that what is inside the case is nothing short of the soul of gangster kingpin Marsellus Wallace, who sold it to Satan and is trying to get it back. The imposing mob boss wears a Band-Aid on the back of his neck, and for some reason when the devil takes your soul he takes it from the back of your neck. Sounds legit.
