10 Unanswered Questions From Famous Movies That Are Still Killing Us
5. What Is On Page 47? - National Treasure: Book Of Secrets
A big part of the premise of the National Treasure franchise is essentially Nicolas Cage solving mysteries and uncovering secrets. However, there just had to be one secret left as a tease for the future of the franchise, something that came in National Treasure: Book of Secrets.
The titular and creatively named Book of Secrets was the MacGuffin Nic Cage's Benjamin Gates chased throughout the National Treasure sequel, and contained big secrets from throughout the history of the United States - the truth about the Kennedy assassination, Area 51, and the like.
Then there was the contents of page 47, the page that the President of the United States himself (Bruce Greenwood) asked Ben to look over and report back. Considering the level of secret contained in the rest of the pages, this was bound to be something big - and could have been literally anything. Exactly what was included, however, was not revealed before the end of the movie.
Benjamin described it as life-changing, but it seems likely that it won't actually change any lives any time soon. Much like Pirates of the Caribbean, there has been talk of a National Treasure sequel pretty much since Book of Secrets came out in 2007, but it seems less and less likely that anything will actually materialise. Thus, page 47, arguably the most tantalising secret throughout the two National Treasure movies, may well remain a secret indefinitely.
