10 Unbelievable Origins Of Iconic Star Wars Sound Effects

10. Chewbacca's Roar - A Mix Of Seven Different Animals

The Sound Effect: The first character George Lucas€™ dog Indiana would inspire (but famously not the last), Chewbacca betrayed his traditional man-in-suit origins to become an emotional touchstone of the original trilogy. His relationship with Han Solo is surprisingly touching, with his brutish exterior making way for humour and compassion. All while speaking in nothing but a series of growls. Although anyone who€™s seen The Star Wars Holiday Special, which misguidedly features lengthy sections of just Chewie€™s family conversing in grunts, may be a little less glowing in their praise, the Wookie language is one of the most memorable sounds from the first Star Wars. The Crazy Origin: It€™d be easy to assume Chewie is simply an animal roaring, but well see that Burtt never does things as simply as you€™d expect. No less than seven animals (bears, lions, camels, badgers, walruses, tigers and, surprisingly, rabbits) were combined to make his growl, with different mixes used to give different tones.
