10 Under-Appreciated Recent Movies Destined To Become Cult Classics
3. Thoroughbreds
Thoroughbreds was less divisive and more just immorally underseen; those few who saw it loved it. It can be a bit slow at times, but the pair of Olivia Cooke and Anya Taylor-Joy bring welcomed life to Cory Finley’s dark comedy. Anton Yelchin even shows up for a supporting role, one of the last performances before his untimely death.
The film’s not funny like other dark comedies are; the patter of the female protagonists is what brings out the humour. The story touches on some dark subjects and severe mental illnesses, but still is able to have a fun spark throughout. The film picks at the ultra-rich and laments that their life is no less messed up than out own. The movie is clever, knows it, and is unapologetic about it.
