10 Under The Radar Horror Movies Coming In 2016
5. Spectral
Spectral is probably the most expensive film on this list; it's a glossy 3D epic about a team of elite soldiers fighting supernatural enemies in an empty city. Maybe it’s not a great sign the film is coming out in August and there’s no trailer and little in the way of promo material for it, but the premise alone makes it worth keeping an eye on.
The film is described by producers as a supernatural take on Black Hawk Down, and the film has a solid cast in James Badge Dale, Emily Mortimer and Max Martini, plus a score by Junkie XL (Mad Max: Fury Road).
The script for Spectral has been floating around for years now, and was regularly cited as one of the best unmade fantasy scripts by industry folk. Universal apparently see the film as a gritty take on Ghostbusters, and would like to make a franchise out of it if possible. Time will tell if that pans out, but one thing is clear; it’ll probably be funnier than the actual Ghostbusters film coming out in 2016.
