10 Most Underrated 90s Teen Movies

2. Idle Hands

Rotten Tomatoes: 16% Flopping with both critics and audiences (making just $4 million against a $25 million budget), Idle Hands is a 90s teen movie that's sadly not discussed much anymore. Still, it's pretty much the definition of "underrated", combining horror and comedy together in one delightfully disturbing package, complete with a cast of young up-and-comers including Devon Sawa, Seth Green and Jessica Alba, along with appearances from The Offspring, Blink 182's Tom Delonge, and even Freddy Krueger himself, Robert Englund (as the voice of the hand). The run-away absurdity of the movie's premise, of a man trying to kill his own possessed, murderous hand (which he has cut off with a meat cleaver), gives it plenty of comic mileage, but the inventive gore and sure creepiness makes it an effective horror as well. Plus, there's a scene in which The Offspring's front-man Dexter Holland has his scalp ripped off, and it's got a young Jessica Alba spending much of the film wearing very little, which is always a bonus. Ignore the critical destruction: this one's a delightfully off-kilter cult classic that you deserve to give a chance.
