Rotten Tomatoes: 57% Here's a movie for anyone who's ever wished they could have a second go-around of their high school years because they were a total loser the first time. Drew Barrymore is delightfully dorky in Never Been Kissed as a news reporter made to go undercover in a high school, at which point she essentially begins re-living the same torture she suffered the first time. The script, which gleefully pokes fun at the absurdity of high school life, is a riot that never tries too hard, and serves up two fine supporting roles for David Arquette (as Barrymore's brother Rob) and Leelee Sobieski (as her new-found friend Aldys), as well as boasting appearances from the likes of John C. Reilly, Michael Vartan, Molly Shannon, Jessica Alba, Marley Shelton, James Franco and Octavia Spencer. That the movie manages to be a sly satire of the teen comedy while still being unapologetically romantic is a testament to both Barrymore's lovable performance and the deft script, which while not exactly unpredictable, is sweet and undeniably clever.
Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes).
