10 Underrated Christmas Movies You Need To See
4. Emmet Otter's Jug Band Christmas
If you say "Muppet Christmas movie" to someone, chances are inevitable that you're gonna hear "Muppet Christmas Carol" or even "Muppet Family Christmas" in response. And there's good reason for that, as both of those movies are fun and heartfelt like the rest of Henson's work, but with that extra layer of genuine Christmas magic.
But there's one other Jim Henson project centered around the most wonderful time of the year, and because of its short run on TV, most Henson fans have never heard of it, let alone mainstream audiences: Emmet Otter's Jug Band Christmas.
The movie is a spin on The Gift Of the Magi, where a mother and son separately enter a talent show to earn money to get a gift for the other. A great setup for Muppet madness, but Emmet Otter goes a different route, instead being comprised mainly of quiet moments and dialogue-focused humor. Its most notable addition to the Henson canon was Where The River Meets The Sea, one of the saddest ballads the great Jim Henson ever wrote (to the point where they sang it at his funeral).
It's a touching tale that every lover of The Muppets should include in their library.
