10 Underrated Christmas Movies You Need To See

5. Terry Pratchett's Hogfather

Terry Pratchett

If you've never read anything by Terry Pratchett, do yourself and everyone around you a favor and fix that for your own good. While the universe of the Discworld has always proven difficult to adapt, the closest anyone has come to truly adapting the manic satirical energy of Pratchett's novels while still making a good story has been the adaptation of Hogfather.

It's Hogswatch in the chaotic city of Ankh-Morpork - their equivalent to Christmas, with even their own version of Santa Clause, known as the Hogfather. Except the Hogfather has disappeared due to the Auditors Of Reality - a cosmic force dedicated to culling the chaos of humanity - who killed off the Hogfather in order to ruin the holiday as part of one of their many long games.

Standing in their way, as always, is Discworld's embodiment of Death, who enjoys humanity's many quirks, and so takes up the mantle of Hogfather to keep the holiday spirit alive.

Not only is the idea of DEATH becoming essentially Santa to save Christmas funny on so many levels, but its philosophy on humanity and its need for fantasies and myths to remain human is compelling in that way only the late legend Pratchett could be.
