10 Underrated Disney/Pixar Songs
9. Life Is A Highway - Cars
Cars is a horrific glimpse into a future where vehicles once built to serve mankind rise up and take control of the planet.
Think Terminator meets Herbie.
In reality, Cars is a total gem that combines the thrill of motor racing with a moving story about how fame isn't all its cracked up to be.
The film's soundtrack pays homage to the dust-covered tracks associated with Route 66 - a major setting in the movie. Tracks by Chuck Berry, Hank Williams, and James Taylor take the audience back to a time long forgotten and paint a marvelous picture of rural America in years gone by.
Perhaps the most famous song on the soundtrack is not one that people immediately associate with the film.
Country rock outfit, Rascal Flatts, provided a cover of Tom Cochrane's 1990 hit "Life is a Highway" for the Cars soundtrack. It sold very well, peaking at number 7, the band's second-highest charting song ever.
This song is underrated because it has become associated far more with the band than it has with the film. So, next time you're jamming out to this track, remember that you have a little red racecar to thank.
"Ka-chow" indeed.
