10 Underrated Films By Amazing Directors

9. Edgar Wright - Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World

Whether he's turning his hand to classic homages to zombie horror films or buddy-cop films or heists, Edgar Wright is one of the most talented directors currently working.

As a direct adaptation of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s superb Scott Pilgrim graphic novels, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is a wonderful blend of romance, comedy, action and comic book. Here we can see everything that we love about Edgar Wright on show in dazzling form, from the inventive scene transitions (that really make you feel like you’re in an actual comic book) to the pitch-perfect dialogue, it’s hard to see why a film as genius as this didn’t do better at the box office.

The story follows the love-life of the titular Scott Pilgrim (played to perfection by Michael Cera, who rivals his own performances in both Superbad and Arrested Development) as he has to battle the seven evil exes of his love-interest, Ramona Flowers (played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead).

Honestly, it’s baffling how a film that brags a cast of Kieran Culkin, Anna Kendrick, Chris Evans, Jason Schwartzman, Brandon Routh, Mae Whitman and Brie Larson isn’t more well-known, but here it is.

Ben Maples hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
