10 Underrated Horror Movie Moments That Will Scar You For Life
8. Art’s Next Trick - Terrifier
A spin-off from director Damian Leone's scrappy low budget 2013 anthology All Hallow's Eve, 2016's throwback slasher Terrifier brings back the garish colour schemes and faded film stock aesthetic of grind house classics for its simple story of a murderous, un-killable clown who stalks a poor pair of unfortunate girls in a hellish cityscape.
Hysterically gory, this slasher pastiche plays the tropes of its sub genre dead straight, eschewing the subversive meta humour of recent slasher flicks in favour of an over-the-top but nonetheless brutally efficient bit of disturbing horror.
Never is this straightforward scare machine more effective than when its unforgettable villain, Art the Clown, is stalking his latest victim, and the flick's horrifying appeal is best epitmoized by one late kill which viewer will hard to forget.
Like so many in his professions (clowns and serial killers, that is), Art is a frustrated magician, and like Warren Zevon before him for his next trick he needs a volunteer.
The thing about this jaw-dropping kill scene is, when Art says a woman in two, he finishes at the head.
Told you it was hard to forget.
