10 Underrated Horror Movie Remakes

3. Night Of The Living Dead (1990)

13 Ghosts Matthew Lillard
Columbia Pictures

It's not hard to see why the 1990 Night of the Living Dead gets overlooked so much, because the original film is one of the most remade films to ever exist. It just gets lost in the shuffle of the other cheap knockoffs trying to bank off the original.

This version directed by special effects legend Tom Savini, may follow the original heavily but the changes it does make are enough to make it a great reimagining of the groundbreaking classic.

Whereas the original broke ground with a black protagonist, this version also allows Barbara to shine as the female heroine rather than the catatonic useless lump of zombie chow that she was in the original.

It also rivets up the pace with much tighter editing and a focus on the character's actions at the price of a gloomy atmosphere. However, It does allow the tension between characters in the house to be much more intense and the suspenseful zombie attacks that much scarier.

With Savini at the helm, the violence is also heightened with a focus on practical gore that looks just as good as you'd imagine.

It can't live up to what the first film achieved, but it reimagines just enough to stand apart and offer viewers a severely underappreciated zombie flick.
