10 Underrated Marvel Movies That Deserve Another Chance
7. The Amazing Spider-Man 2
Make no mistake, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was a decent film that simply suffered from some very poor marketing. Had Sony not misled fans as to what Rhino's role was or spoiled pivotal moments in the trailers, it likely would have been received much better, as this is where most of the criticism stemmed from.
On its own, the movie is genuinely enjoyable with by far its biggest strength being the sheer amount of acting talent on display. Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone made for fantastic leads and would go on to receive an Oscar nomination and Oscar win, respectively; Jamie Foxx had an Oscar under his belt going in and gave it his all as Electro; and Dane DeHaan is an exceptional performer in his own right and was in his element as Harry Osborn.
This movie has also been compared to Spider-Man 3 in regards to feeling overstuffed with characters and plot points, but in reality, it handles itself well and is not nearly as much of a mess as that film is (nor is it nearly as terrible.)
Finally, it had a great story to tell about guilt, desperation, and consequence, as well as some of the best effects in a Spider-Man film to date. It's not the best Spidey flick out there, but it really is solid.
