10 Underrated Movies (That Were Just Misunderstood)

1. Alice

Alice in Wonderland has been done to death over the years; from twisted reimaginings to box office flops. Did we really need another interpretation?

Alice is a refreshing take on the original, complete with new imaginings of characters we know and love. Every character has their own quirks to make them stand out. Take The Queen of Hearts as an example, in this version, she is calculating, cold and logical whereas in the animated film, she is more hot-headed and comical. In this version, she kidnaps people from Alice's world and brings them to Wonderland to drain them of their emotions, which are used as a bizarre form of currency.

Critiques of Alice have labelled it as a quest that is less than successful, while others cite Alice as too normal, but it's not just a trip through the looking glass, it's more of a liberation for Alice, a journey of a woman maturing and blossoming into her womanhood, albeit with an army of realistic characters that could easily be found in the real world, and that makes the story believable and utterly compelling.

It's like a wild acid trip through a twisted gritty Wonderland. To name a few, you have an emotion harvesting casino, hot pink metal flying flamingos, and a rather nightmare-inducing Jabberwock. As for Alice, she's a black belt judo teacher capable of kicking some serious arse. The Mad Hatter is less mad, but really useful in a fistfight.

Suit up, because this is going to be one hell of a bumpy ride!
