10 Underrated Movies That Were Probably Masterpieces

8. The Assassination of the Outlaw Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qp2ppYB9fDo Andrew Dominik is quite possibly the most underrated director working today. He creates films of sheer visual majesty that feature very enthralling stories and characters that viewers can really invest themselves in. This film is his greatest achievement and truly one of the greatest westerns ever made by almost being an anti-western in a way. The story is very slow and cerebral which goes against the fast, gun-slinging ways of the westerns of the 50s and 60s while also focusing more on character than is typical of the genre. This reinvention of a tired and, somewhat, forgotten genre places the film right alongside No Country for Old Men as the greatest western of the 21st century yet it didn't receive anywhere near as much acclaim.

My favorite movies are Before Sunrise, Pulp Fiction, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Alien and Her so don't be surprised to see those pop up in my writing from time to time. I'm currently in school for Journalism/English and I have an obsession with all things cinematic on the side.
