10 Underrated Movies That Were Probably Masterpieces

5. 500 Days of Summer

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PsD0NpFSADM For my money (500) Days of Summer is the best romantic comedy of the past decade and one of the best that the genre has to offer. It is truly an original movie that could have been a derivative, train wreck in the wrong hands. Luckily, for viewers the film ends up being a hilarious and moving portrait of love that doesn't come off the least bit cheesy or ironic. The movie isn't afraid to be blunt with its audience and this pays off in spades. Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel have amazing chemistry together that gives the scenes where they're together and the film itself a sense of enjoyment. The non-linear structure also adds significantly by allowing their relationship to play out in full in a clever fashion that keeps the film from ever losing its momentum.

My favorite movies are Before Sunrise, Pulp Fiction, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Alien and Her so don't be surprised to see those pop up in my writing from time to time. I'm currently in school for Journalism/English and I have an obsession with all things cinematic on the side.
