10 Underrated Movies With Jaw-Dropping Ensemble Casts

1. Bobby

The fact that Emilio Estevez's superbly-directed Bobby wasn't even nominated for an Oscar is one of the biggest oversights the Academy has made in the last decade. Rather turn this pseudo-biopic into a direct portrait of Robert F. Kennedy, Estevez decides to paint a mural, developing (mostly exaggerated) stories of those who were at the Ambassador Hotel the night Bobby was assassinated, all linked to RFK and his ideas for the future of America. To flesh out these characters, the former-Sheen enlisted the help of a multigenerational cast consisting of pretty much every famous actor who wasn't too busy to show up on set for at least a couple of days. Anthony Hopkins plays the owner of the hotel, Harry Belafonte is an old friend who plays chess with him in the lobby, William H. Macy the hotel manager, Sharon Stone runs the hotel's beauty salon, Helen Graham is the receptionist, Christian Slater plays a caterer, Laurence Fishburne is his sous chef, Freddy Rodriguez and Jacob Vargas are part of the kitchen staff, Demi Moore is the hotel's lounge singer, Estevez is her manager, and an insane number of additional supporting actors (too many to list) all get their moment to shine. Is it a bit preachy? Sure. But Bobby Kennedy wasn't known for his subtlety as a speech-giver.
