10 More Underrated Sci-Fi Films You Need To Love

5. Highlander: The Search For Vengeance

Pic1 2430 Hey, don't go away. Mentioning subsequent Highlander films usually results in nostalgic chuckles or shakes of the head, but without fail when I mention one of them is an anime people's eyes just glaze. Highlander: The Search for Vengeance is little known except by maybe diehard fans of the Highlander series and anime lovers. It features Colin Mcleod searching through the ages to take the head of a megalomaniac Roman, Marcus Octavius, who kills his wife and people in 300 AD, Scotland. The movie is definitely anime intended for adult audiences; it sports plenty of violence, swearing, and some nudity. Despite some of the over the top gratuity what I really appreciated about it was how much the story sought to add to the Highlander universe. For example, it introduces the concept of reincarnation for all of us average, non-immortal people. The subplot focuses on Colin continually missing the chance to be happy throughout centuries because he fails to realize the women he meets are his reincarnated wife. Eyes still glazing? Okay, how about the concept being extremely catchy. Two immortal warriors locked into a grudge match, which spans every major war in history (yes, including World War II). It's pretty epic.
