10 Underrated Star Wars Legends Characters That Deserve A Second Chance
8. Montross
Fans of the game Star Wars: Bounty Hunter will recognise Montross as one of the primary antagonists Jango Fett encounters on the journey that led to him becoming the template for the clone army. Montross and Jango share a long and complicated history and in many ways, they are two sides of the same coin. Despite this, his ruthless methods made Jango Fett look like a Saint. His character also marked the first time Clancy Brown lent his voice to a character in the Star Wars Universe. (He would later portray Maul's brother, Savage Oppress, in The Clone Wars animated series.)
In an era where the Mandalorians teeter on being the good guys, Montross comes from a time where they were anti-heroes at best. Whereas bounty hunters such as Din Djarin say: “I can bring you in warm or I can bring you in cold”, Montross opts to just shoot his bounty in the back, even if that means a reduced pay day.
While Jango’s legitimacy as a Mandalorian is in question in the current canon thanks to a throwaway line in The Clone Wars from the sneaky Prime Minister Almec, re-treading Jango’s backstory could give more context on Mandalore’s pacifist phase. Who better to show off the worst they have to offer than Montross?
Montross’ motivations are simple: money and power. This would set up an interesting conflict dynamic with any true Mandalorian, or anyone with an honour code for that matter. He could even be completely recycled, potentially hired by a certain Moff to bring in a bounty stolen by another Mandalorian.
