10. Execution By Beheading - Chicken Run
DreamWorks PicturesProduced by Ardman Studios, creators of Wallace and Grommit, the 2000 movie Chicken Run is a clever, enjoyable watch. Riffing off the classic war film The Great Escape, the movie tells the story of the Tweedy farm where the chickens have one choice: escape or be turned into pies by the farmers new machine. From the start, the story makes a ton of hilarious similarities between the chicken coup and a world war II POW campup until the morning roll call is made. The Kommandant of the farm, Mrs. Tweedy, takes roll call a different way; she doesn't count the chickens, she counts their eggs. With horror the other chickens realize that one of their comrades hasn't lain any all week. Before anything can be done Mrs. Tweedy grips the eggless chicken by the neck, carrying her off to the barn. The story's protagonist, Ginger, follows to see what will happen. She looks inside the barn just in time to see her friend be placed on the chopping block. The next moment the ax falls, hitting the wood with a thud.
