10 Unforgettable 2017 Movie Scenes
8. The Projector - IT
IT was something of a revelation: IT manages to find the heart and the terror in one of Stephen King's most famous (and most didactic) novels by splitting it in two. And unlike The Hobbit, this choice actually makes structural sense!
There are so many terrifying scenes in this film to choose from. The creepy clown peeking out from the sewer drain is certainly the most iconic, but the scene that stuck with us the most is the scene in Bill Denbrough's garage involving a slide projector that just won't work properly.
This scene starts as a pretty standard exposition dump, with the entire losers club gathered around to locate the lair of Pennywise. But as the scene rolls on, the slide projector starts to malfunction, rolling slides of Bill's family, until one of them transforms into the terrifying circus performer. But the scene doesn't stop there. The clown leaps out of the projection and terrorizes the children before they escape the garage.
There's something incredible about how this scene goes from 1 to 11 in mere minutes, building from dread to horror to terror without missing a beat. Not only that, it is the most perfect example of what makes this film so terrifying: No matter where you go in Derry, nowhere is safe from Pennywise the Dancing Clown.
