10 Unforgivably Bad CGI Scenes In BILLION Dollar Movies

8. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey - Down in Goblin-town

Peter Jackson's much-anticipated return to Middle-earth didn't stack up to the critical and - adjusted for inflation - commercial success of his first foray but his second trilogy isn't necessarily the much-maligned mess that many automatically cite it to be (second entry The Desolation of Smaug arguably remains the best high fantasy film of the last decade).

But there's little escaping that, for all its talk of technological advancement, its CGI work remains a particularly iffy flaw across the series. Final entry The Battle of the Five Armies is the worst offender, but its initial forage - the only one to cross a billion dollars - has its share, most notably Barry Humphries' grotesque Great Goblin, whose appearance veers at points into sixth-gen video-game boss graphic territory. It's naff.
