What movie was Jesse Eisenberg acting in?

That’s not meant to be disparaging of the very talented actor, but his performance was very out of place in this somber epic. For one thing, he seemed to be having a good time which is more than we can say for most of the cast. But in search of ways to make Lex Luthor an interesting villain, Eisenberg made some odd choices.

Among those odd choices is Lex’s affection for Jolly Ranchers. He snacks on the tasty hard candy during a short little scene in which he shakes down a senator for access to the Kryptonian artifacts. He kindly offers one of his candies to the senator who turns it down. But, being a weird creep, Luthor forces the Jolly Rancher into the senator’s mouth.

As bizarre a thing as that was for Luthor to do, the real hilarity comes from the senator, who is completely unwilling to accept the candy but does nothing to stop it from happening. It would not be at all surprising if this moment was unscripted and the actor playing the senator just didn't have a solid improv background. 

Also, you'd think the senator might wonder, "Hey, maybe I shouldn't give this weirdo access to potentially dangerous alien technology".
