10 Unlikely (But Wonderful) Relationships That Spawned In Movies

9. The Deetzes & The Maitlands (Beetlejuice)

Beetlejuice Ending The Maitland family, Adam and Barbara, tragically died shortly after moving in to their dream home. Whilst existing as ghosts, their dream house is bought by another family - the Deetzes - who move in and interrupt their afterlife. Their afterlife case worker, Juno, informs them that they must remain in the house for 125 years and that if they want the Deetzes out of the house, it is up to them to scare them away. They hire a "bio-exorcist" - the titular Beetlejuice - who works in the same way that a regular exorcist works, only his job is to remove the living from a property rather than a ghost. He does so by teaching the Maitlands how to act scary. Their attempts fail and, in an attempt to contact the Maitlands, the Deetzes inadvertently perform an exorcism. The Deetz daughter, Lydia, asks Beetlejuice to save them from the exorcism and he agrees - if she'll marry him. She hesitantly agrees to do so, but he is set upon by Barbara Maitland riding a sandworm, which fends him off permanently. As a result of this, the Deetzes and the Maitlands agree to live together in harmony in the house - a relationship that didn't seem possible at the start of the movie.
